Edward W. Rilee

Mr. Rilee's background includes ten years in the corporate research and development environment, first as a researcher and then as a patent liaison. He began his law practice as a patent attorney in 1984 with the Babcock and Wilcox Company, followed by Burlington Industries.

As a partner in MacCord Mason, Mr. Rilee works with individual inventors and both small and large companies in such diverse fields as ceramic fibers and fiber/metal composites, metallurgy, textiles, instrumentation and process controls, medical devices, computers and business method software. He assists inventors with the preparation of invention disclosures and patentability studies and opinions. He prepares and files U.S. patent applications, amendments and appeal briefs. His work also includes infringement studies and opinions, validity studies and opinions and litigation support.

Mr. Rilee received his Bachelor of Science in Ceramic Engineering in 1971 and his Master of Science in Materials Engineering in 1977 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He graduated from the University of Akron School of Law as a Juris Doctor in 1982. He is admitted to the practice of law in the States of North Carolina and Ohio, before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, before the Federal District Courts of North Carolina and before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Rilee is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and the Greensboro Bar Association.
